Obituary for James O Hanna

James O. ‘Jimmy” Hanna, 89, died on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at home after a period of declining health. He was predeceased by his lifelong companion Dolores (Roberts) Hanna.
Jimmy was born in Bristol on February 4, 1928 and was the son of the late Rupert C. and Olive P. Hanna. He served as a Merchant Marine for several years and was employed for thirty plus years as the manager of the Boothbay Region Transfer Station until his retirement. He also worked as a fish processor at the “Freezer”.
Jimmy enjoyed being involved and was active in the area. He served as a Selectman in Boothbay for many years, was on the Board of Trustees for the Cemetery Division in Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor and served as the Dog Constable. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge #32 since 1978 and had served as past District Deputy. In his spare time he enjoyed riding motorcycles, bowling and was an avid cribbage player.
He is survived by his two sons, Damon Hanna of Boothbay Harbor and Kendall Hanna of Starks and his sister, Peggy Rubenstein of Rockland. He was also predeceased by his son, Jimmy Hanna and his brother, Phillip Poland.
At the request of Jimmy’s family there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Knights of Pythias, Boothbay Lodge #32, P.O. Box 482, Boothbay, Maine 04537. For more information and to send online condolences, please visit, www.hallfuneralhomes.com
