Obituary for
Wanda Marie Hayes
Wanda Marie Hayes, 59 of Waldoboro, passed away on November 16, 2017 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. She was born on August 29, 1958 to James K. Hayes, Sr. and Theresa Cote.
Wanda grew up in Sanford and attended local schools and then furthered her education by taking several college classes. She came to Waldoboro over 30 years ago. She had a long time career working with children as a teacher. She worked as a bus driver/teacher for many years at the Head Start school, she then went on to work at Medomak Valley High School as a life skills teacher (educational technician).
She loved arts and crafts, was an avid reader, built bird houses and butterfly houses. Wanda enjoyed fishing on Seven Tree Pond and she also loved hunting and loved gardening.
Wanda enjoyed her grandchildren immensely. She was a loving grandmother. Wanda was also a strong, independent woman who often did jobs that most men would not want to do. She was a compassionate and proud person, always willing to help others.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Fred Ames, Sr., sister, Kathy Crowley, and brother, James K. Hayes, Jr.
Wanda is survived by her companion of 12 years, Norman Gamage of Waldoboro, daughters Melisa Hayes of Waldoboro and Tammy Ames of Waldoboro, son Freddy Ames of Waldoboro, sister Judy Winchenbach of Waldoboro, brother Ronnie Hayes of New Hampshire and sister Brenda Hayes of Gardiner, 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Waldoboro Word of Life Church, Old Route #1, in Waldoboro, Pastor Tom Rawley officiating.
