Obituary for Shirley Mae Perkins

Shirley Mae Perkins, 85 of Hope, passed away on November 27, 2017 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. She was born on May 15, 1932 in Whitefield, Maine to Elven Creamer and Annie (Jones) Creamer.

Shirley grew up in Washington and Hope area and attended schools in Washington. She was a stay at home mom, raising her children and also ran an adult foster care home for 20 years. She also worked at the blueberry canning factory in Union.

Shirley loved going dancing at the Blue Goose. She especially loved being a mother, and homemaker, cooking and taking care of her family. She was an independent, loving, feisty, big hearted, strong willed woman and loved her grandbabies.

She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Eugene L. Philbrook, sons Irving Philbrook, Eugene A. Philbrook, Robert L. Philbrook, granddaughter Kelly Lowe, and sisters Frances Tibbetts, and Hattie Hall.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 46 years, Virgil Perkins of Hope, daughters Dale Martz and Dwinal Tripp of Union and Lisa Martin and husband Joseph of Warren, and Sharon Philbrook, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren, and daughter-in-law Dawn Hoche of St. George.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Camden on Monday, December 4, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name may be made to the Knox Center for Long Term Care, Attn: Carol Timberlake, 6 White Street, Rockland, Maine 04841, designate that donations will go to support the CNA program.
