Obituary for Mark R Morey

THOMASTON – Mark R. Morey died December 20th, 2017, at his home. Mark was born at Knox County General Hospital in Rockland, June 17th, 1958 to Leroy Montgomery and Laurie Jeanette (McKown) Morey.
Mark graduated from Georges Valley High School in Thomaston, the class of 1976.

He was the class president and president of the student council, a member of the Pep Club, yearbook staff, Outdoorsman club, graduation ball committee, a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Varsity Basketball-Statistician, and received a Certificate from Region 8 Vocational Education for Carpentry.

After graduation he traveled with the Samoset Hotel chain, living in Indiana, California and finally settling in Hollywood, Florida for 30 years, working for the Hotel 100 in Miami Beach as an accountant.

Mark decided to come home to be closer to family and became a PCA, working at the Homestead in Cushing, and later became the Manager of the Volunteers of America – Rocky Coast House in Thomaston. He then decided to work in private care settings for the elderly.

Mark had a very special friend “Tyson” his Chihuahua. His pride and joy. He loved that dog and took him everywhere. Tyson would ride in the middle on the console between the seats.

When our mother became ill, he moved in with her and took care of her with the help of our aunt Joyce until mom’s death in 2015.

Mark was very ill the past year, mainly in the hospital or nursing homes for care. When he became stable he decided to settle in Thomaston.

He will forever be remembered as being a helpful person, and a jolly soul who loved to care for people. He was very kindhearted, and had lots of patience. I will always remember my little brother for his laugh, love and kindness.

His favorite things were Halloween, going to Salem to celebrate every year, cooking, and sharing his special creations with family and friends. I will always remember his dedication to, and caring for people, helping and giving all of himself to them.

Mark was a member of the Broad Cove Methodist Church in Cushing, and helped with many activities there.

He was predeceased by our grandparents, Montgomery Chase and Joyce (Blood) Morey, of Thomaston, Frederic Carlos and Hazel Delmar (Farnham) McKown, of East Boothbay, our parents of Cushing and his brother in law Andrew Martin, several Aunts and Uncles.

He is survived by me sister Susan Ann (Morey) Martin, my son Jesse J. and Erica (Lambert) Eaton, aunt Linda (Morey) Benway of Westbrook, a large family of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends Alan Parker, Caroline Hooper, Richard and Joanie (Mayo) Vargas, Thea Stockton of Michigan, and Jesse Smith, and of course Tyson.

According to his wishes, there will be no services.

Mark will be buried with his parents at Pleasant View Cemetery in Cushing.
