Obituary for Edna Mabel Nelson

Edna Mabel Nelson, 95, passed away on January 26, 2018 at the Pillsbury Manor in South Burlington, Vermont. She was born April 21, 1922 in Union, Maine daughter of Marion and Mabel (Ross) Smith. She was employed at Backus Hospital, Norwich, CT. Upon her retirement in 1986 she moved to the family homestead at Clarey Hill Rd, Union, ME.

She was married to James Nelson, April 15, 1944. He predeceased her in 1973. She was predeceased by her two sons James A. Nelson and Jeffrey L Nelson.

She was educated in Versailles and Norwich, CT.

Edna was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, Versailles, CT, Eastern Star, Norwich, CT and Willow Grange in Jefferson, Maine.

Edna was a sweet loving devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend. What joy was felt around her dining room table laughing and telling stories while sharing her delicious macaroni and cheese. She loved to take ‘surprise’ driving adventures and visiting the fairs with her cousin Eunice Flagg. Time spent anywhere on the Maine coast was a joy to her. She loved all animals especially dogs, cats and horses. Her beloved dog Moxie was her companion for many years.

Edna is survived by her grandsons Keith J. Nelson and his wife, Vicki and Kyle L. Nelson and his wife, Helen; her adored great- grand children Oliver Nelson, Josie Nelson, Henry Nelson and Elena Nelson; her daughter-in-law Nancy Nelson; numerous cousins, a niece, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous close friends and neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held on May 12, 2018 at 2 PM at the People’s United Methodist Church, Union, Maine, Reverend Elizabeth Bailey-Mitchell officiating. Burial immediately following at Lakeview Cemetery, Union, Maine.
