Obituary for Henry P. Groth

Henry P.  Groth
Henry P. Groth, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2018 in Waldoboro with his family by his side. Henry was born in New York City, NY on March 14, 1932, the son of Henry W. Groth and Anne Berhman Groth.

Henry attended local schools in New York City before moving to Maine. Henry graduated from Waldoboro High School in 1949. He then joined the Air Force National Guard. After joining the service he married Eleanor Lunt on October 18, 1953. Henry was well known in Waldoboro and the surrounding areas as the TV repair, sales and service man for approximately 32 years. He was vice president at VAST Engineering in Waldoboro, after that he was the vice president of Dick Arthurs International School of Polygraphist based in New York City. Then later in life his passion for railroads led him to be conductor of the Maine Eastern Railroad, which ran from Rockland to Brunswick. He was also known for his outdoor railroad and every Waldoboro Day he gave rides and donated the benefits to the Waldoboro Fire Department.

He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend. He attended the Orff Corner Community Church in Waldoboro. He was an avid and passionate model railroader.

Henry was a former member of the King Solomon Lodge #61 in Waldoboro and former member of the Kora Shriners in Lewiston.

Henry was predeceased by his son Henry W. Groth in 1975 and daughter, Belinda L. Groth in 2011.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Eleanor Groth of Waldoboro, daughter Marianne L. Groth and husband Mike Benner of St. George, grandchildren, Carrie Groth of Rockland, Adam Groth and wife Mandi of Thomaston, and T. J. Groth and significant other Winter of Warren, Henry W. Groth and significant other Melanie of Waldoboro, Jesse T. Groth and significant other Stacey of Warren, step grandsons Amos Benner and wife Tabatha of St. George and Eli Benner and wife Jessie of Portland, great grandchildren Noah Yeaton of Vinalhaven, Justin Groth of Thomaston, Fay Groth of Thomaston, Sofie Groth of Warren, and Kaydence Flanders of Warren, and step great grandchildren Lauren Curtis of St. George and Aaron Benner of St. George.

Services will be private.

The family requests no flowers, instead donations may be made in Henry’s name to the Orff Corner Community Church, P.O. Box 1021, Waldoboro, ME 04572.
