Obituary for Edward W DeCosta Jr.

Edward W. DeCosta, Jr., 89, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018 at St. Andrews
Village, Boothbay Harbor, ME, with his family by his side.
Ed was born on January 5, 1929 in Boothbay Harbor to Edward W. DeCosta, Sr. and Esther (Pratt)
DeCosta. He attended local schools and went on to enlist in the Marines, serving in WWII and Korean
War. Ed later returned to Boothbay and in 1956 married Nancy M. Cunningham, also of Boothbay,
where they started their family.
During the summer months you could find Ed digging marine worms and during the winter months
working as a carpenter. He worked for several contractors over the years, retiring under Jim Greenleaf.
Ed had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed being in the woods. He would spend hours working with his
sawmill and you’d often find him on his tractor. Ed also enjoyed auto-racing and baseball but his favorite
thing was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and making them toys.
Ed was a devoted husband, wonderful father, brother and grandfather. He was a member of the
Bayview Masonic Lodge in Boothbay as well as the Boothbay Fire Department.
Ed leaves behind his beloved wife Nancy, of sixty-one years; two sons, Rodney DeCosta and his wife
Mary of Boothbay, Randy DeCosta and his wife Marsha of Alna; sister Marie Spofford of Boothbay;
seven grandchildren, Megan Hillburn of New Jersey, Tony Serano of Boothbay Harbor, Crystal Goodrow
of Ohio, Kimberly DeCosta of Wiscasset, Rodney Scott DeCosta of Boothbay, Curtis DeCosta of Gray, and
Mitchell DeCosta of Jefferson; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
