Obituary for Florence B. Haggett

Florence B. Haggett
Florence Lillian (Barlow) Haggett peacefully passed away on March 10, 2018 at the remarkable age of 105. Born in East Boothbay, Maine on November 13, 1912, she lived in Boothbay Harbor, Maine until her 100th birthday.

She was one of six children born to Luther and Lillian Barlow. She was predeceased by brothers, Richard, Arthur, Wendell and Elliott and her sister Katherine as well as her husband Gilbert Mather Haggett.

She was the first lady of her family to attend business school in Portland, Maine and worked as a bookkeeper for Marston Brothers, and Central Maine Power Co., where she met her eventual husband “Gib” and then worked for her brother Arthur at Harbor Motors Co.

Her life was one of giving unconditionally as evidenced by her 95 years attending Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher, member of United Methodist Women and Life Member of Crescent Chapter #54 of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a recipient of the Boston Post Cane as the oldest citizen of Boothbay Harbor.

She will long be remembered for her service to the local Public Library and the Historical Society as well as by her friends and neighbors for her kindness and blueberry muffins and buckle, chocolate chip cookies, and those amazing lemon meringue pies.

She leaves behind a son Richard and his wife Jeannette Davis of Wells, Maine, a son Courtney and late wife Janet O’Sullivan (predeceased 2007) and his present wife Anne Rollins of Wells, Maine, five grandchildren, Candace Flanders, Christian Haggett, David Haggett, Patricia Pappalardo, and Nancy Kirshner, seven great-grandchildren, Mary Grace Miller, Emily Haggett, Anthony Pappalardo, Daniel Gelinas, Andrew Gelinas, and River Riley and Michaela Flanders, three great-great grandchildren, Bailee Moore, Aleeah Gelinas and Weston Gelinas, nephew Ronald Haggett and wife Ann, niece Peggy Peters and several great nieces.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., Reverend Richard Rego officiating. An Eastern Star service will also be held. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay with a reception immediately following at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Florence’s memory to the Boothbay Harbor United Methodist Church, 81 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04538.
