Life Story for Robert William Seeger

Robert William “Bob” Seeger, 90, passed away on April 25, 2018 at Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta with his family by his side. Bob was born on August 29, 1927 in Flushing Long Island, New York to Louis and Lena Proudy Seeger.

Bob graduated from PS 107 in Flushing Queens Long Island, New York. After school he enlisted into the Merchant Marines. After his service in the military he went to Juillard for a year, playing in different clubs.
Bob started at the age of 1 year old spending summers in Jefferson when his parents stayed at the Merserve House. The next year they bought a cottage across the River. From that time on they stayed in the cottage with his mother and aunt. The men traveled back and forth from New York City to Maine.

Bob later went to Gates Business College in Augusta for bookkeeping. His first job was at Abbott Chevrolet in Waldoboro. During that time he met his girlfriend, now wife, Elsa Orff. They were married on July 19, 1953. The bought a farm in Friendship, lived there 19 years, raised two daughters, Nancy and Bonnie Seeger. After building a home on the land in Jefferson where the cottage is he worked for Dragon Cement Plant and retired after 22 years. He went on to work for Poulin Plumbing Co. for 6 years and Sukeforth’s John Deere Lawn and Garden business as a bookkeeper.

While in Friendship Bob’s family was the first people to have a hay, garden and snowplowing business. They had two tractors, mower, rake, bailer and plow. He went all over the town mowing and working the hay. He loved doing this and meeting people. Every year he had to mow, rake and bale hay for the annual Sloop Races so people could have parking spaces.

He was a member of Willow Grange #366, Lake View Chapter #179 in Jefferson, and Charles C. Lilly Post #149 in Waldoboro. In his later years he spent time at home, enjoying his Cris Craft boat just riding around the lake.

Life and love lingers on from the time we’re born. Married 64 years and now at peace. Life and love never ceases.
