Obituary for Phyllis J Derigon

Phyllis J Derigon
Phyllis J. Derigon of Northfield, MA died peacefully at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor, Maine on July 20, 2017 at the age of 92.

She came to Maine in June of 2016 to be closer to her favorite cousin, Jeffrey H. Miller of East Boothbay. Phyllis was born in New Milford, CT on March 28, 1925. She graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredricksburg, Virginia. She was an only child and never married. She lived a long and wonderful life working for Phoenix Mutual Insurance Company in Hartford, CT and eventually retired to Northfield, Massachusetts where she lived for 40 years. She enjoyed her little brown house with the blue shutters and the swimming pool. She entertained her friends and raised a lot of money for local charities. She was very generous and gave a lot of her money, her possessions and her time to worthy causes. She was passionate about traveling and made friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and a good novel or biography. She was a pillar of the Northfield community. As the daughter of a small town grocer during the Great Depression, Phyllis learned to be sharp and calculating, as well as kind and compassionate. She was a long time member of the Northfield Finance Committee. She supported the Dickinson Memorial Library and was an active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church. When the church was burned down, she lead the committee that financed the rebuilding of the church. She was well-known and well-loved by many in Northfield.

She is survived by second cousins Jeffrey H. Miller, Audrey L. Miller and Alexis L. Miller in Maine, as well as second cousins in Connecticut, Florida and New Jersey. There will be a graveside service in the fall at the Pentacost Cementary in Northfield. Details will be announced at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the Dickinson Memorial Library, 109 Main Street, Northfield, MA 01360 or to the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 147 Main Street, Northfield, MA 01360.
