Obituary for Patricia P ""Penny"" Wright

Patricia (Penny) Pendleton Wright, 49, died Feb. 4, 2018 after a long, hard fought battle of three and a half years with a brain tumor condition.

She was born Nov. 5, 1968 at the Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Her parents are Howard and Dee Wright Sr. of East Boothbay, Maine.

Penny started school at Exton, Pennsylvania while living on the campus of The Church Farm School. Her father was on the school’s faculty. Penny liked Scouting and started as a Brownie while living there. At age 10 the family moved to Orono, Maine where she finished her education graduating from Orono High School in 1988. While at Orono she excelled as a sprinter in spring track. She also was in amateur ice skating shows at the university.

Penny started coming to Maine summers at Cape Elizabeth, then Boothbay Harbor, until the family moved to Maine permanently. She enjoyed many outdoor activities – cutting grass on dad’s riding mower was always a given; sailing at the Southport Yacht Club, riding her bike, skiing with her “Best Buddy,” daughter, Elisabeth. Penny was also on the Camden Snow Bowl Courtesy Ski Patrol.

She started working summers at the Boothbay Harbor Hannaford and then on to Bangor where she was a most dedicated employee for 20 years until her tumor surfaced. While living in Bangor, she was like a “mother hen” to a group of less fortunate adults. Penny took them shopping and on trips to Bar Harbor in her beloved Oldsmobile sedan from the Southport Firemen’s Auction.

Words can’t quite begin to express our family’s profound appreciation at the legions of health professionals, support services personnel; Bangor and Portland hospitals, and various rehabilitation facilities. Penny could not have been in a better place than Winship Green in Bath, Maine for her final days. The ever so caring staff there, coupled with the outstanding Hospice care of Chans Home Health Care, was truly a blessing.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her dearest daughter, Elisabeth Wright; her brother, Howard Jr. and his wife Kari, and their family Gracie and Sam.

Penny loved her time spent on Burnt Island in Southport, helping where she could with the various programs presented to people from around the world, as well as school children. Should you wish, in lieu of flowers, to make a donation to the Penny Wright Memorial Scholarship/Education Fund at Burnt Island to further help students and teachers experience the unique educational opportunities offered there. Donations may be mailed to Keepers of Burnt Island Light, P.O. Box 738, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

A Funeral Service for "Penny" will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, 32 Emery Way, Boothbay Harbor, ME. with a reception to follow.

Hall's of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, please visit hallfuneralhomes.com
