Obituary for Grace D Calhoun

Grace D. Calhoun, resident of Boothbay, ME for all 96 amazing years of her life, passed away peacefully in her home, as she wanted on February 6, 2018 with her family right at her side.

Grace was born the 8th of 10 siblings in 1921 to Grace & Arthur Dodge of Boothbay. Her amazing life started, thrived, and ended in the place she called home at 934 Wiscasset Road. In 1939 Grace graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School. Post graduation, she briefly worked for Bath Iron Works as a welder and in the early 40’s Gracie’s free spirit led her on journeys to California and Florida where she worked for several years. Upon her return to Boothbay in the late 40’s she gained employment for the Capt. & Jean Wade - where she met the love of her life - the Wade’s Canadian nephew Ronald Calhoun. Their romance was short and their connection strong, and in 1948 Grace became Mrs. Ronald W Calhoun. Shortly thereafter their family life began with their first of 3 girls. Grace’s life was full and in her nearly 10 decades of life she enjoyed many things: playing golf at the Boothbay Country Club, her weekly bridge games with her dearest friends, volunteering for the St. Andrew’s Auxiliary Thrift Shop, being a member of the Boothbay Civic Association, and taking an integral part in the Order of the Eastern Star. But her life’s work truly revolved around being Ronnie’s right-hand lady for his electrical business and tending to her 3 children: Karen, Jeanne, & Judy & then later doting on her two grandchildren: Lindsey & Gabe. Grace lived life on her terms and was the role model of all role models, establishing a presence of love, guidance, wisdom and passion for working hard and being the best you can be.
Grace was predeceased in 2001 by her husband of 53 years, Ronald W. Calhoun and in 2009 by her son-in-law, Roger E. Pinkham. A huge hole has been left in the hearts of those she leaves behind, her three daughters: Karen C Pinkham, Jeanne C. Tonon, Judith Calhoun Dorr (& husband Charles Dorr), along with her 2 grandchildren Lindsey Grace Pinkham (& husband Michael Percy) and Gabe Tonon.
At Grace’s request there will be no funeral service, but there will be a gathering of friends and family to celebrate her life on Saturday - February 24th from 1-3 at The Gallery Gathering & Events on 102 Ocean Point Rd in Boothbay Harbor.
Anyone wishing to make donations in Grace’s memory, they may be made to either the St. Andrew’s Hospital Auxiliary (185 Townsend Ave, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538) or the Boothbay Civic Association (PO Box 81, Boothbay, ME 04537)
