Malcolm H. Thomas, 90, died peacefully on February 15, 2018, at St. Andrews Village where he had lived for well over a decade in an independent cottage and then in the Gregory Wing, where he received excellent care by many.

Malcolm was born on February 9, 1928, to Marvin and Elizabeth (Hull)Thomas in New York City, New York.

Malcolm grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, attended Syracuse University, and worked many years for the state of New Hampshire. Malcolm lived a robust life of activity, mostly outdoors, and was responsible for the planning and design of several New Hampshire state parks. As noted by his sister, Daphne, Malcolm was always outside as a child and chose a college where he could be outside. Malcolm created trails wherever he was for work, for his particular enjoyment, and for the enjoyment of others. When Malcolm was in the Army, he traveled through all of the northern states and later through most of the southern states.

After he retired from state park service, he and his then widowed sister, Daphne, moved from New York to St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. He spent countless hours working with Daphne on their duplex cottage at St. Andrews Village, creating beauty for himself and for Daphne. Over the years, he was a supporter of several local non-profits, including the Boothbay Region Land Trust, the Boothbay Region YMCA, and the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund. The most recent trails he created were for both St. Andrews Village and the Boothbay Region Land Trust, including some at Penny Lake.

Malcolm was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his devoted sister, Daphne Thomas Kimball.

There will be a memorial service for Malcolm Thomas at St. Andrews Village on February 28th at 2 p.m. in the Main Hall. Friends of Malcolm, and his sister Daphne Kimball, are encouraged to attend. Daphne has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Boothbay Region Land Trust, P.O.Box 183, Boothbay Harbor, ME. 04538
