Allen Richard Winchenbach, 71, passed away on February 27, 2018 with his family by his side at Togus in Augusta after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 4, 1946 in Waldoboro to Ralph Winchenbach, Sr. and Beatrice (Genthner) Winchenbach.

Allen grew up in Waldoboro where he attended local schools. He then moved to Pennsylvania where he worked various jobs. Allen joined the Army in 1966 and was stationed at Fort Campbell, KY for basic training. He was then transferred to the 101st Airborne Division and attended jump school at Fort Benning in Georgia where he became a paratrooper. When he returned to Fort Campbell he was told that the 101st Airborne Division was going to be transferred to Viet Nam. When he finished his tour of duty he was released from service and returned home to his family. Allen then worked as a clammer and scallopper but he always went back to the job he loved the most and that was clam digging which he did until he no longer could.

One of Allen’s past times was plucking away at carpenter work.

Allen is predeceased by his parents, sister Veronica Winchenbach and brothers Larry Winchenbach and Ralph Winchenbach, Jr. and sister Murial Winchenbach.

Survivors include his son, Allen R. Teele and wife Sarah of Bremen, daughters Ranae L. Robbins of Rockland and Melissa Della-Penna, of Florida, brothers, Eugene Winchenbach, Montgomery Winchenbach and Dale Winchenbach all of Waldoboro, sisters Linda Boyington, Charlene Boyington and husband Ralph, Sandra Soule, Patricia Isabel, and Beatrice Quintel and husband Louie all of Waldoboro, Darlene Grierson and husband Bob of Spruce Head, grandchildren, Alex, Kolton, Christian, Catherine, Garrett, Derek, Devon, Christopher, and Niko, great grandchildren, Elijah, Ethan, and Jaslyn.

Visiting hours for Allen will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, in Waldoboro followed by a gathering at Allen and Sarah’s home at 171 Nobleboro Road, in Bremen from 2-6 p.m.
