Life Story for Edna L. Simmons

Edna L.  Simmons
Edna L. Simmons, 86, passed away on April 24, 2018 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. Edna was born on July 16, 1931 on Clark Island in St. George to Fred Simmons and Edith (Clark) Simmons. She grew up in Friendship after moving there with her family as a child. She also spent time living in Friendship Long Island. Edna attended Friendship Village School and graduated from Waldoboro High School. Edna and her brother lived for 74 years with their parents and together until 2016, at the time of their house fire.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother Ernest L. Simmons. Edna is survived by special life-long friends Shirley Benner of Waldoboro, Brad & Marcie Davis of Friendship, and Sonia (Davis) Voeglin formerly of Friendship. Also her devoted care givers at Knox Center Skilled Nursing Unit, special friends Jackie Freitas of Friendship, Lura Robinson of Friendship, Marie Hendrickson of Friendship, her home caregivers headed up by Brenda Winslow and other friends.

Edna worked at GTE Sylvania as a production clerk until retiring to care for her Mother. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working as a part time Librarian in Friendship. She was a player of Sudoku and liked British comedies, especially “Hyacinth”. Edna was a philanthropist, was strong, “sharp as a tack”, never complained or gossiped, and had a great sense of humor. She loved her cats over the years and loved watching wildlife through the windows when at home. She also always enjoyed going out to lunch or for a drive in her later years. Edna was a caregiver of her family all her life.

There will be a graveside service for Edna at Harbor View Cemetery in Friendship on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., Reverend Bob Dorr officiating. A reception will follow the service to be held at the Davis residence, 158 Harbor Road in Friendship.

Contributions in Edna’s name may be made to the Friendship Fire Department, c/o Town of Friendship, P.O. Box 207, Friendship, ME 04547. Also to Pope Memorial Human Society, 25 Buttermilk Lane, Thomaston, ME 04861.
