Obituary for Edith V Sevon (Chaples)

Edith Victoria (Chaples) Sevon, 89, of Wadsworth Street, Thomaston, died June 7, 2018, at The Cushing Homestead in Cushing.

Born in Rockland on August 13, 1928, she was the daughter of Charles and Hilda (Putansu) Chaples and grew up in Clark Island. Edie was industrious and worked in many local fishing industries throughout her lifetime, including many of the area’s sardine factories, Atlantic Sea Food and The Great Eastern Mussel Farm.

She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine (Tom Sr.) Kent of Stillwater Okla., her son, Clayton (Ellen) Miller of Rowe Mass.; her granddaughters, Wanda (Guy) Cooper of Okla., Roxanne Miller of N.C., Kristine (Mike) Hooper of St. George; grandson, Tom Kent Jr. of Fla.; and six great-grandchildren (Thomas Kent III of S.C., Taylor Kent of Fla., Kaitlin Cooper of Okla. and Colby, Roxanna and Eva Hooper of St. George.

She is also survived by her dear friends, aka “The Girls.” They continued their monthly luncheons up until Edie’s passing. She also leaves her lifelong dear friend, Ruthie Peterson of Clark Island (one of the girls), who lovingly cared for her during the last eight months of her life. And she leaves her favorite handymen, brothers Alan and Scrappy Colson.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Arthur Sevon, who passed away last September; her parents; her sister, Elsie Chaples; and her son, Winslow Miller.

It was Edie’s wish that no formal funeral services be held. She will be cremated, and ashes scattered in places held dear to Edie.
