Obituary for Robert William Sayward

Union- Robert William Sayward, 79, passed away comfortably at LincolnHealth Miles Campus in Damariscotta, Maine on June 12, 2018 with his family by his side. Robert was born on February 16, 1939 in Rockland, Maine to parents Earl and Eleanor Hussey Sayward. Robert grew up in Rockland and graduated from Rockland District High School.

After graduation Robert entered the workforce starting off at First National Food stores, then onto Bonner- Vawter where he met Nancy Spear and they were married on November 10, 1962. He also worked for the Town of Rockport plowing snow as well as being a police officer when needed. Finding his calling Robert went to work for the Maine State Prison and retired from there after 20 years of employment.

Robert will be remembered as someone who “liked to poke a little fun at you if he knew you well”, he was kind and very humorous as the family says. Some of Roberts favorite past times were working in his garden, driving his lawn tractor and when time allowed he would go fishing.

Robert liked to eat with his favorite food being seafood especially shrimp. One of his treasures was his “Yellow Volkswagon Bug” that he so enjoyed driving around.

Robert was pre-deceased by his parents along with his sister Estelle Jones. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Nancy, his sons Robert Sayward II and his companion Linda of Union, ME. Peter Sayward and his wife Audree of Appleton, ME. He also leaves his brother Richard Sayward and his wife Dot of Fort Valley, Georgia and a sister Erlene Williams from Inverness, Fla. Along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

Per Roberts wishes no services will be held . His family will honor his life privately.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Clark and his staff at Lifespan Family Healthcare, the staff at Coves Edge and the doctors and nurses at LincolnHealth Miles Campus for their wonderful care of Robert. And a very special thank you to Janet Dailey for her love and support.
