Obituary for Wilbur "Bill" R Bailey

Print
Wilbur “Bill” Bailey “passed over the bar” on October 12th, 2018 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Bill was born in Waycross, Georgia on June 24th, 1943 to parents Wilbur and Margaret Seward Bailey where Bill’s father was a Commander of a camp of German prisoners of war. Bill’s family was then transferred to the next duty station in Columbus, Ohio. Many years later Bill graduated from Ohio State University and has been a devoted Buckeye fan forever.

So far from the nearest ocean, Bill joined the Navy and became a submariner for six years. He was trained in New London, Connecticut and became a Ballistic Missile Officer. After the Navy, Bill joined the civilian life back in Ohio, working for various businesses. Eventually Bill was employed by Locktite Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio as a national sales manager in the power, sports, marine, consumer and export division for sixteen years.

In 1990 Bill was transferred to Locktite’s national headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut. It was that year that Bill officially became a New Englander for the rest of his life. It was in Connecticut that he met his future wife, Loretta Krupinski, a children’s book author and illustrator, and marine artist. Bill became Loretta’s typist, editor, computer tech support and art consultant. Bringing these skills to Maine in retirement, they moved to a salt water cove in South Thomaston where they enjoyed 18 lovely years together. In retirement, Bill volunteered at the Owls Head Transportation Museum as a tour guide. Bill earned his Captain’s license, crewing the “M.V. Monhegan”, the windjammer ketch “Morning in Maine” and three summers on the “M.V. Rendezvous” in Rockland Harbor doing daily tours. Coming out of retirement, Bill worked at the call center with Boston Financial for ten years.

Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, and a brother John. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Loretta Krupinski Bailey, his two daughters , Suzanne Ryan and Christine Bailey, and four grandchildren in Twinsburg, Ohio. He is also survived by a step –daughter, Jennifer Mulhern in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Bill at Hall Funeral Home, 78 Main Street, Thomaston, Maine on Saturday October 20th, 2018 beginning at 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. where a brief ceremony will be held at 4:15 P.M. for family and friends.

The family has requested that donations in Bill’s memory be made to The Pope Memorial Humane Society, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, Maine 04841.
