Sandra Lee Simmons, 77, of Rockland, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2018 at the Knox Center for Long Term Care with her son Danny by her side.
Sandra was born on November 24, 1940 in Rockland, Maine to Clara Lane Church, and adopted as a child by grandparents Alfred and Bessie Church.
Sandra was married Murray Larrabee in 1957 and they had seven sons. She then married Maynard Simmons in 1969 and made her home in Friendship. During this time she worked at Fieldcrest Manor and Moody’s Diner. She also worked at the fish plants in Rockland and in her later years she did cleaning for people. Sandra went back to school and graduated from Medomak Valley High School in 1976.
She was a past president of the Fireman’s Auxiliary in Rockland, a member of the Advent Christian Church of Friendship, member of the Methodist Church in Waldoboro, member of Grace Chapter #93 Order of Eastern Star of Thomaston and also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Fire Department of Friendship for many years.
Sandra enjoyed making crafts, music, lawn sales, motorcycling, camping, karate and genealogy.
She also was an avid roller skater. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest enjoyment. Danny and Sandra enjoyed a special bond, always doing things together.
She is predeceased by her mother Clara Lane Church, and parents Alfred and Bessie Church, her first husband Murray Larrabee, her second husband Maynard Simmons, and her niece Candy Wright.
Sandra is survived by her sons David (Becca) Larrabee of Union, Darrell (Elaine) Larrabee of Thomaston, Timothy (Linda) Larrabee of Chebeague Island, Tony Larrabee of Anacortes, WA, Gary (Ursula) Larrabee of Lake Charles, LA, Daniel Larrabee of Union, Bernard “Ben” Larrabee of Appleton, brothers Alfred (Karen) Knowlton of Georgia, Douglas (Elaine) Knowlton of Waldoboro, and Malcolm (Anita) Knowlton of Thomaston, sisters Valerie (Rick) Wallace of Union, Karen (Keith) Simmons of Friendship, Barbie (Amond “Bub”) Morse of Northport, Ruthie (Sonny) Prior of Bremen, Nancy (Allen) Smith of Waldoboro, and Tina Brann of the Bahamas, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Harbor Cemetery in Friendship, Pastor Bob Dorr officiating.
