Obituary for Gerald B. Hill

Gerald B. Hill, 89, of Warren, passed away on October 31, 2018 at the Sussman House in Rockport, with his family surrounding him. Gerald was born on September 14, 1929 in St. Stephens, Canada to Norman W. Hill and Geneva (Scott) Hill.

Gerald was a proud Army veteran from 1947 to 1953 and served in the Korean War where he was trained for his telephone company career. After his discharge he worked for New England Telephone for 35 years. Upon retirement he took up downhill skiing and golf. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family members and especially enjoyed his time bird hunting with his dog Pam. Gerald was a quiet, kind, patient man who loved his family and celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary with them this summer.

For many years he and his wife enjoyed camping and spent the last 30 years as snowbirds going to Florida every winter to their southern home.

Gerald was a member of the St. George Masonic Lodge #16 for more than 65 years and also a member of the Anah Shriners in Bangor.

Gerald is predeceased by his parents, and brothers Ralph G. Hill and Ronald W. Hill. His brother Norman W. Hill passed away the day after him.

Gerald is survived by his wife Freda (Howard) Hill of Warren, daughters, Linda Kreider and husband Mark of Old Orchard Beach, and Nancy Anderson and husband Mark of Warren, grandchildren Courtney Mains and husband Jimmy of Hollis, Brooke Behrens and husband Jerel of Westbrook, Travis Anderson and wife Shelby of Warren and Justin Anderson and partner Jacob McHugh of Warren, along with 5 much loved great grandchildren, his sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Halls of Waldoboro, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro, with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. A memorial service with Army Honors will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Second Congregational Church, 252 Main Street in Warren at 3:00 p.m., with a reception immediately following the service at the Church. Reverend Matthew McDonald officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gerald’s name made payable to, Pen Bay Waldo Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, ME 04841, and designate contributions are to be made to The Sussman House.
