Jean B. Slocum, 98, died November 30, 2018 at St. Andrews Village Boothbay Harbor Maine. She was born on June 7, 1920 to George and Clara (Grandjean) Brickwood, in New Haven, Connecticut. She attended Hillhouse High School and Marot College.

She married T. Bateman Slocum in 1945 and together they raised three children.

In 1976 Jean and her husband Bateman purchased Seggerman-Slocum Wine Importing Business from his brother, and changed the name to Slocum and Sons. After the death of her husband in 1977, Jean became President of the company until she retired at the age of 70.

She donated many hours of community service to Easter Seals, the First Church of Christ in Woodbridge Connecticut and the Junior West End Club. She was a trustee of Quinnipiac University, a member of the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the Woodbridge Garden Club, and Boothbay Region Garden Club. She enjoyed reading and knitting and spending time with her family and many friends. Jean was an avid Republican and would be proud to know she shares her date of death with George H.W. Bush.

Jean was predeceased in 1977 by her husband T. Bateman after 32 years of marriage.

She is survived by her three children, Sally Barter of Boothbay Maine, Sons, George Slocum (Marlene Johnson) of Woodbridge, Connecticut, Thomas(Myra)Slocum of Hobe Sound, Florida.

Grandchildren: Toby Slocum of Cheshire Connecticut, John (Paige) Slocum of Guilford Connecticut, Joshua (Tina) Slocum of Cheshire Connecticut, Rebecca (Matthew) Scharnoff of Westport Connecticut, Drew (Lisen) Barter of Old Saybrook Connecticut, and Brooke (Jeff) Stearns of Portland Maine.

Great grandchildren, Jake, Aiden, Nicholas, Alexandra, Piper, Charlie, Lincoln, Alice, Bridget and Joshua.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday December 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Milfordside Cemetery, Race Brook Rd., Woodbridge Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean’s memory to Easter Seals Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center, 432 Washington Ave., North Haven, Connecticut 06473

Dear Sal, I was so sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. She was a great gal and so very devoted to her family. I remember the loud and many laughs we had at our bridge games at Race Brook--didn't get much card playing in, but we had a super time. I know what great care you gave your mom in Maine--bless you--she was in good hands.. My sincere sympathy to you and all of your family. Fondly, Carol Isaacs
