It is with great sadness that the family of Martha Irene Mckown announces her passing
on March 12, 2019 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, Maine at the age of 84.
Martha was born to Frederic and Hazel (Farnham) McKown in East Boothbay on April
29, 1934 in the house where she lived for 82 years until she moved to Boothbay Green for
health reasons.
Martha was a hard worker in gardens and had a gift of making beautiful arrangements
of flowers all throughout the Boothbay region. Her handy work brought much joy to many
people.
Martha also shared her knowledge of nature with all who knew her. There wasn't a wild
flower or tree that she couldn't name. She loved the outdoors and made others realize the
beauty around them.
Martha never married. She took care of her parents and was a mother figure to all of
her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She had very little money but what she gave and did
for others was priceless. Martha will be greatly missed.
Martha is predeceased by brothers Frederic McKown Jr., Robert McKown, David
McKown and sisters Marilyn Collins, Jeanette Morey and Barbara Pomerleau.
She leaves behind sisters, Joyce Graffam, Margie Yocum and brother George
McKown; sister-in-law and best friend, Marjorie (Alley) McKown; along with many nieces and
nephews.
There will be no funeral and a memorial will be held at a later date.
