Obituary for John Henry Parlin III

John Henry Parlin III, of Waldoboro, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019. John was born on January 8, 1943 in Jefferson to John H. Parlin Jr. and the late Grace (Leavitt) Parlin. He was an only child. He had been a resident of St. Andrews Nursing Home for the past 10 years.

John is survived by his two daughters Deidre Parlin of Waldoboro and Johnna (Parlin) Pendleton and husband Jeff of Wiscasset, his grandchildren Derek Brilyea of Jefferson, Andrea (Chris) Main of Wiscasset, Stephanie (Todd) Christopher of Pittston, and James (Amanda) Pendleton of Dresden. He had six great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cameron, Alex, Madison, Tucker and Piper.

John was injured at BIW when he was 22 and had ongoing medical problems. In his 40’s he had Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He found it best for him to be self-employed and tried many things and loved them all . . . clam digging, lobstering, woodcutter, truck driver, trading cattle and he owned his own junk business.

He found he had a talent for doing carvings with a chain saw and set himself up at Windsor Fair where he sold them.

John enjoyed pulling his oxen at all the State fairs in Maine. He belonged to the Maine State Horse and Ox Association. He qualified two years to take cattle to Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, where he pulled his American neck yoke style against their Canadian head yoke style. He won the traveling trophy one year and brought it home to the states.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, 177 Winslows Mills Road in Waldoboro, with Pastor Brian Ritchie officiating.
