Nancy Hurst, 86 of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully on May 27, 2020 after a brief illness.

Born and raised on Southport, daughter of Leland & Lucy Snowman, older sister to Beverly, Sylvia, Linda & Gary. Nancy proudly carried on the family principles of hard work, quiet generosity, kindness and stubbornness! Always a wonderful Mother, Grammie & Great Grammie. She loved animals, cooking, gardening and reading. No one’s mac & cheese is any better!

Nancy worked for many years at Marine Resources in the water quality lab. Brought up in a fishing/lobstering family, being a good steward of the environment was always important throughout her life. Recycle, reuse & make do.

She is survived by sons, John and his wife Janice of Hallandale, Florida and Peter of Sawyer's Island; daughter, Lucy Barter and husband Greg; grandsons, David Barter of Boothbay Harbor, Tyler Barter and his wife Rachael and daughters Emilie and Abigail of Kennebunk.
Her go-to gals Jill Perkins & Teresa Bryer.

She was predeceased by husband John Hurst Jr. and son Dan.

At her request, there will not be a service. Memorial contributions can be made in Nancy’s name to:
Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund, PO Box 293, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or
Rebuilding Together, PO Box 22, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538

I will miss my big sister, she was the one who gave me my first doll. She was always like a second mother, taught me how to like vegetables, and the love of the outdoors and animals.Such a sweet disposition, and always was there to listen to any problems.
Love my sister💕💕💕 Linda

I have wonderful memories of Nancy which began in June 1983 when I was hired as a Dept of Marine Resources Conservation Aide. DMR was participating in a three-year water sampling program to re-classify the tidal waters along the coast. Hal introduced me to my lab instructor, Mrs. Nancy Hurst. She ruled the roost in the WQ Lab. Nancy was a dear sweet lady !

What a wonderful lady. If you loved the clams from the coast of Maine, shout out a huge "Thank you" to Nancy for keeping you safe from the dreaded "shellfish poisoning". When I first arrived at Maine Dept of Marine Resources back in 1984, she took me under her wing. Over the years she was my favorite "stop" as I made my facility inspection rounds every day. She always had time for a chat and some words of encouragement for me, a "person from away" as I would sometimes lament my life's predicaments. My heart is sad.
