I was a biology major at Colby from 1991 to 1995, and had Dr. Fowles for several classes. He was my favorite professor, I enjoyed his personality and easygoing manner of teaching very much. Deepest sympathies to his entire family. He made a positive impact on so many students. Best regards,
Dr. Jennifer Saam ‘95

I was one of Dr. Fowles students. I struggled to pass his course in evolution. When I took the qualifying exams for my Master's degree, I passed the evolution section (with honors). To this day I can not explain how I could almost fail his course and yet learn the material. That lesson continues to shape my teaching. I went on to get a Ph.D, and to teach Biology (and evolution).

Mark and I remember Bruce fondly. He was always kind and caring to both of us. I always felt Bruce and I had a special connection as we both grew up in ME and came from similar ME families.. Mark had a love of biking, and being outside in nature with Bruce. We found him on FB over the last year and enjoyed seeing that he had a good life and a loving family..I will always remember the hand knit sweater he gave me one Christmas... it was beautiful... We remember the sweet faces of Seth and Jess.... sending you all our condolences..
