Obituary

Michael Bowden, 62, passed away on August 25, 2020. Mike was born on June 27, 1958, the son of Charles Bowden of Jefferson and the late Marion (Choate) Bowden.

He grew up in Jefferson, graduating from Medomak High School and later SMVTI in Portland. He was a resident of Jefferson for his entire life.

Mike will be remembered as a hardworking man, having worked for 38 years as a shipfitter at BIW.  He was a proud father and loved his children deeply.  He was a family man that looked forward to attending his childrens’ sporting events.  He took pride in taking care of his family. Mike also enjoyed working on racecars with friends, and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who loved to ride. Some of his childrens’ fondest memories were riding together with him.

Mike is survived by his father Charles and his beloved children, Kyle Bowden of Winthrop and Cassidy Bowden of Bar Harbor. He also is survived by his sister Linda (Bowden) Elwell and her husband Frank Elwell, as well as his aunt Flora (Simmons) Bowden, all of Waldoboro. Mike was predeceased by his mother Marion, his stepmother Alice (Travis) Bowden, his aunt Caroline “Cal” (Bowden) Heyer and her husband Therlow Heyer of Jefferson, and his uncle Otto Howard “Pat” Bowden Jr. of Waldoboro.

A public visitation will be held for Mike at Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro from 5-7pm on Monday, August 31. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Masks will be provided at the door.

Flowers are welcome, but should you wish to donate to a charity in memory of Mike, donations should be sent to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at https://www.namimaine.org/donate.

Hall's of Waldoboro has care of the arrangements.

My Deepest condolences to all of Mike's family. I went to high school with Mike and though I haven't seen him since we graduated I remember him as a fine upstanding man, confident in his words and actions, just a real good man. It doesn't surprise me how adamant he was at taking care of his family, that's the kind of man he was. May you rest in peace Mike.

Dearest Charlie, Linda, Kyle, and Cassidy,
My heart is breaking for you all, and please know that I am holding you close in my thoughts and prayers. I knew Michael well as a young person, but had not seen him in many years until his cousin Johnny's funeral where we talked for quite awhile. He jokingly gave me heck about my dating a friend of his rather than him when we hung with the same group of friends back in the 80's. We both got a laugh out of that. A life lost too early for sure while doing what he loved, riding his motorcycle. I'm so sorry for your loss... Hoping you all find some solace in knowing he is with his Maker and no longer struggling thru this life...
I'm sorry I was not able to attend his funeral; if COVID was a thing of the past I for sure would have been there, I really wanted to be.
Rest in God's eternal Peace Michael!

Kyle and Cassidy, I'm so sorry for your loss. The few times I've talked with your dad and met him at family gatherings he was always friendly. Cassidy and Kyle, take care of yourselves, and know you are loved by him and others. I know he was proud of you because he and your grandpa always spoke of you with a gleam in their eyes about how well you were doing in life! I'm sorry to have missed visiting hours. Prayers for you both and cousin Linda and Uncle Charlie. Sincerely, Libby (Kennedy) Miner, Pat and Flora's granddaughter.

Michael was an important part of my life for a number of years. He was one of the first people to believe in me and encourage me to follow my dreams. He loved his children and they were his joy.
