As John's supervisor at the Maine Department of Transportation, I saw John on a regular basis for 14 years. When someone I know and appreciate leaves MaineDOT --- for whatever reason --- I often feel an inspiration to express that appreciation. John's time at MaineDOT has given me the inspiration to write these verses:
John Gordon (2020)

John came to MaineDOT from Boothbay ---
A significant drive, day by day.
He brought mid-coastal charm
And told many a yarn.
In our workplace, he was a mainstay.

John was a very big help
With the section’s workload, I felt.
Keeping records maintained,
He never complained
Of the Type-1 hand he was dealt.

John and I neared the same age.
We grew up in the same decades.
We would exchange our stories
Of common cultural glories.
Conversations brightened our days.

John was a true team member
From January on through December.
Doing his part
With humor and heart,
He is one I will always remember.
