He was born on August 24, 1939 in Lewiston, ME. to parents Greta and Wayne Manter. The family lived in many places as his dad was a customs officer in northern Maine. Walter’s education included Fort Fairfield Schools, University of Maine, University of New Hampshire and various graduate school programs.
Walter married Connie Miller, from West, MA. In 1967. They recently celebrated their 54th Anniversary. They had two children, Jon and Todd, living in various places ranging from Groton, MA, Waterville Valley, NH, finally settling in East Boothbay, ME.

In the 1960’s Walter’s career evolved during a transformational electronics era. He worked primarily with Digital Equipment Corporation, 1967-2010, retiring from Hewlett Packard.

Walter has had many interests, skills and talents. In the early 1970’s he and Connie purchased and developed land on the coast of Maine in East Boothbay. Walter was a visionary general contractor with ongoing building and expansion endeavors. In 1980 he founded and managed Manter Properties in Portland, ME. Dear Connie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Walter was my manager at Digital for several years and continued to be my friend long after. We enjoyed visiting in Boothbay Harbor and reminiscing about DEC experiences. Thank you, Walter and Connie, for some great memories.
