Obituary

Priscilla Knowlton Tavenner, 84, of Boothbay, passed away peacefully in her home on
the morning of May 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving husband Thomas and family.

Priscilla was born on February 15, 1937 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Frank and Hilder
Knowlton. She is survived by her husband Thomas, her loving partner in life for 62
years; son Thomas, Jr. and his wife Ann, of Andover, Massachusetts; son John and his
wife Yolande of North Conway, New Hampshire, son-in-law David Spencer of Dresden,
Maine; five grandchildren, Sarah, William, Isabel, Abigail and Tommy; one great
grandchild, Eleanor Lisa, and nieces and nephews Susan, Karen (Puddy) and Braddy.
She was predeceased by her daughter Lisa Tavenner Spencer and her only sibling, her
sister Natalie.

Priscilla grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts and attended Skidmore College. Following
graduation she worked at Harvard College where she met the love of her life Thomas
where he was completing his law degree. They married in Portland, Oregon in 1959 and
moved to Boothbay in 1975. Priscilla was proud to be part of and an active member of
the community and the Congregational Church and volunteered for several causes true to
her heart.

Priscilla was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and still found time to
run her husband’s law office for 37 years before retiring in 2018. She had a great love
for cooking, gardening, playing the piano, travelling and most of all being surrounded by
family and friends for any occasion. Her sense of humor was infectious, selfless
generosity beyond measure and innate ability to spin a story unique in every respect
inevitably ending in roaring laughter by all. She will be sorely missed but never
forgotten.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish to
donate, select a charity of your choice in Priscilla’s memory.

Tom and Priscilla were two of the first people we met when we moved to Maine and after speaking with them and getting to know them I knew I would love it here if everyone was as kind as they were. I am so sorry for the loss of your wife, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. I recently had a chance to visit with Priscilla several times and am so grateful for that. We talked about family and shared pictures of the grandkids. May you find comfort in the loving memories you will always hold close to your heart. Sincere condolences at this difficult time. Love The Russell's (Deb and Bruce)

I have known Priscilla for many years, first meeting her when I worked for Alan McLaughlin in 2001. She always had a funny comment, a great laugh, and always called me “dear”. She and Tom were just the sweetest people. But, you never wanted to make her mad, cuz she wasn’t shy about letting you know what she thought about what you said lol. I will miss you my friend. Rest In Peace.
