Obituary for Bette R Wallace

Bette R Wallace, 87, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2021 at The Sussman House in Rockport after a period of declining health.
She was born April 15, 1934 in Wellesley, MA. The daughter of Ernest W. Lee and Matilda (Ostermyer) Lee.

She grew up in Wellesley, MA attending the local schools and graduating high school at Wellesley High School. She enjoyed many years of tap dance and ballet throughout her school years with many recitals and fun costumes. Upon her high school graduation she joined her mom working at the local greenhouse and flower shop in Wellesley. She would also spend many summers at her sister’s summer house in Waldoboro, ME and this is where she met her future husband, Lester Wallace. They married on December 18, 1954 and made their home in Back Cove, Waldoboro where they raised their two daughters.

She was a homemaker for many years while raising and caring for her family. There were many years of picnics on the local islands, family vacations throughout New England and Canada plus a memorable trip to Graceland, TN and Hershey Park, PA. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing and crafting. She also enjoyed dancing and her and Lester would enjoy many years on Saturday nights dancing at the local dance hall Echo Hill and the VFW Halls. After raising her family she rejoined the workforce working many years at Van Baalen’s in Rockland and then moved onto working at Common Sense Designs in Nobleboro until her retirement. Her family was most important to her and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren whenever she could.

She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings-Geraldine Campbell, Florence Dobachesky, Ernest Lee, Stanley Lee.
She is survived by her daughters Janis Millett and husband Phil of Florida, Karen Elliott and husband Stuart of Warren, ME, grandchildren-Steven Chadbourne and wife Michelle of Colorado, Lindsay Jenkins and husband Derek of Florida, Sarah Maxcy and husband Jon of Warren, ME, great grandchildren-Riley, Sydney, Dominick, Aubrey, Charley and Maverick Chadbourne, Hailey and Samantha Jenkins and newborn “Miss” Charlotte Belle Maxcy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private graveside service only was held due to the ongoing pandemic with arrangements in the care of Hall Funeral Home of Waldoboro.
