Obituary for Corinne Rita McIntyre
Corinne R. McIntyre, fine artist and proprietor of Ocean Point Studio and Gallery in East Boothbay, passed away at her home on May 02, 2023 at the age of 92.
Corinne was born Feb. 28, 1931 in Brighton MA. She was the daughter of John and Evelyn Donnellon and had one brother, Richard. Corinne graduated from Watertown MA High School and was awarded a scholarship to attend the Art Instituteof Boston. After graduating from the Art Institute, she married the late Kenneth H. Pascoe and had two sons while continuing her art education and freelancing as a fashion artist for the Grover Cronin’s Department Store in Waltham MA. She also modeled in the store’s fashion shows and served as the Easter Bunny in their annual Easter parade. In the 1960s, Corinne travelled to Europe to see the art treasures of France, Spain, Italy, and Greece, studied oil painting, life-drawing, and print-making at Brandeis University in Waltham MA and DeCordova Museum in Lincoln MA, and grew her business as a graphic designer andillustrator. Somehow, at the same time, she was a super mom to her boys and enriched their lives by encouraging their interests and involving them in her many endeavors. Once the boys were grown, she worked as a technical illustrator at M.I.T. and led an art department for a Fortune 500 company.
Corinne met and married Fred McIntyre in the early 1980s. Together they moved to Boothbay Harbor ME and started building their post and beam home on Ocean Point in East Boothbay. At the same time, Fred worked in the Water Department and took up pottery, and Corinne developed her design business and art studio, and a few years later, opened her gallery.
These past three decades in Maine have been the realization of Corinne’s lifelong dream of devoting herself fully to her passion for fine art and for sharing artistic experiences with like-minded people. She was always happiest when painting by the sea, and for many years was known for going out to paint nearly every day in any weather in the true spirit of a plein air artist. She found beauty, joy, and contentment in painting the coastal landscape, and always hoped to convey those feelings to others through her paintings.
Corinne’s enthusiasm for plein air painting took on a social aspect when she and a few other artists began to meet up and paint together. Soon, others expressed an interest in joining in and were always welcomed, encouraged, and added to Corinne’s email list to receive regular invites to various painting destinations. In time, the emails became a weekly newsletter, her email list grew to more than 600 subscribers, and the group came to be known as the Plein Air Painters of Maine (PAPME). Corinne eventually retired from her leadership role but continued to be active in the group. She also continued to run her gallery and had been preparing to open for the 2023 season; she loved socializing with the people who visited her there.
In 2019, members of the PAPME secretly initiated the process of nominating Corinne for the Maine Arts Commission Arts Award for an individual artist. The award process never took place due to the pandemic, but the nomination letters from her fellow artists speak to her welcoming and generous spirit, her inspiring passion for plein air painting, and her eagerness to help and encourage other artists.
Corinne is survived by her son Jeffrey Pascoe of South Burlington VT, her grandchildren Ariel, Daniel, and Alisia Pascoe, Alisia’s partner Ismael Beltran, and their son Julio, all of Williston VT. She was predeceased by her husband Fred McIntyre, her brother Richard Donnellon, and her son Bradley Pascoe.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Boothbay Region Land Trust or to another worthy cause.
