Obituary for Norman Phillip Gray

Norman Phillip Gray
It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Gray who went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, August 21, 2014.

Norman was born October 17, 1930 in Friendship, Maine. He was the son of Phillip Stephen Gray and Muriel Louise Burns Gray. He attended schools in Bucksport and graduated from Samuel D. Hanson High School in Buxton, Maine in 1949. After graduating high school, Norman worked in construction on a dam project in Connecticut and other construction projects. From 1952-1954, he was on a tour of duty with the Marines stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Upon his discharge, he returned to Friendship and started seigning and lobstering with his uncles on Friendship Long Island. Norman was also a lobster fisherman. In 1956, he went to work for Roland Genthner's fuel oil business in Waldoboro. And in 1964, he started his own company called Gray's Heating Oils. Norman was known for his easy going personality, great smile, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He knew a lot of his customers personally and genuinely cared about them.

Norman loved to play cribbage and poker, sometimes playing several times a week with his brother and friends. Norman was very proud to own a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport. He enjoyed taking it to car shows in Maine and all over New England, winning many trophies and making friends along the way. Norman was a 35 year member of the Meduncook Lodge #211 in Friendship.

Norman is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marjorie Gray of Friendship. He has five daughters, Sherrie Reed and husband Wade of Friendship, Teresa Costello and husband Michael of Orono, Merilyn Gray of Rockland, Kelly Hall and husband Jamie of Owls Head, and Jennifer Kane and husband Kevin of Hancock; a son Norman Zachary Gray and wife Megan of Friendship; three step daughters, Deborah Heald of Thomaston, Jennifer Delano of Friendship, and Wendy Collamore of Warren; and three step sons, James Delano and wife Deborah of Waldoboro, Christopher Delano of Friendship, and Matthew Delano and wife Brandy of Waldoboro. A brother Lloyd Gray of Friendship

The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Waldoboro. A private family graveside service will follow at Harbor Cemetery in Friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718, or Pope Memorial Humane Society of Rockland.
