Obituary for Henry Robert Dunsmore

Henry Robert Dunsmore
Henry Robert “Bob” Dunsmore, 72, of Boothbay Harbor, Maine, passed away unexpectedly March 22, 2015 at his home. He was born on February 24, 1943 in Grand Lake Stream, Maine, to Henry F. Dunsmore and Stella Amanda (Yates) Dunsmore.

Bob grew up in Windham. In his junior year of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He returned to graduate in the class of 1967 from Windham High School.

Bob worked in Portland for American Can, DiMillo’s, and began his life-long career as a taxi driver. He worked for Red Cab in South Portland. Bob then started his own cab company called, “Dunzi’s, and he grew his fleet to four taxis in Portland. He helped found the Independent Taxi Owners Association (I.T.O.A.) in Portland. He moved to Boothbay Harbor and starting operating Boothbay Taxi in 1984, and ran the taxi company until he retired in 1998.

Bob was an avid Red Sox fan and loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
His personality often made him seem ornery or gruff, but those who truly knew him could see straight through it. A playful argument or mention of his grandkids would be all it would take to make him smile.

He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Stella Dunsmore and by a sister, Marguerite Louise Potter.

Henry is survived by his two daughters, Kimberly and her husband, John Farrell, of Scarborough, Katrina, and her companion, James Barter, of Boothbay, sisters, Lynn Dunsmore, of Massachusetts, Laura Melvin, and her husband, Dwayne, of Windham, Myra Jean McNally, and her husband, Brent, of Raymond.

Grandchildren, Kurt Dunsmore of Bath, Jenna Lowe of Lewiston, Adaline Barter of Boothbay, James Ryan Barter of Boothbay

Auntie Mabel Dunsmore of Portland
