Obituary for Jamieson W. Brown

Jamieson W. Brown
Jamieson Wiswell “Jim” Brown of Boothbay, died unexpectedly on Wednesday April 8, 2015.

Jim was born to Margaret “Peggy” (Hanemann) Brown and Stanley Brown of South Hempstead, New York.

Jim attended Kimball Union Academy and received a degree in forestry from Nichols College. As a young man he sang and played guitar in a band called the Tiki’s. In the '60s he moved to a family home in Tenants Harbor and owned and operated a sailboat charter business called Spindrift Cruises.

Early in his sailing career, Jim lived aboard several sailboats and did two trips down the East Coast.

With his second wife Jane, they raised three children, Rebecca, Isaac and Christina. Every summer Jim would camp with family and friends on islands off the coast of Maine.

Jim operated the Rebecca Jane as a lobsterman from Tenants Harbor and was employed as a woodworker at various boat yards around St. George. Jim served as director of the ski patrol at the Camden Snow Bowl where he also taught his children to ski.

Trained as an EMT, he also worked for ambulance squads in St. George, Damariscotta and Boothbay. Jim loved to tinker and could restore and reuse everything from lawn mowers to wind chimes.

Jim met his loving companion, Mary Whitney, after moving to Boothbay. They lived together with their golden retrievers, Mellow and Jasper. Jim had a special place in the lives of Mary’s children and never missed bringing his grandson, Mason, to the school bus stop. He was always there to lend a helping hand, whatever was needed. He and Mary loved to spend time bird watching from their porch and fly fishing local rivers or from his kayak.

Jim was predeceased by his mother and father, his aunt Shirley and his brother, Stanley Brown Jr.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Washburn and her husband, David Washburn; his son, Isaac Brown; his daughter Christina Brown and her partner Doug Dunbar; and two grandchildren, Maxx and Aiden; Mary’s daughter, Michelle Plummer; grandchildren Heidi Fuller and husband Barrett Fuller and Randy Chastain Jr. and his wife Paige and three great-grandchildren; Mary’s daughter, Melanie Nelson and husband Ben and grandchildren Nick, Meghan and Alexis; and Mary’s son, Michael Paquette and grandson Mason.
