Obituary for Olaf W. Johnson

Olaf W. Johnson
Olaf William Johnson died peacefully on June 9, 2015 with his loving wife, Judith and family friend, Cheri, by his side. He was born to Charles and Mildred (Gross) Johnson on November 22, 1933. At the age of five, he went to live with his foster parents, Fred and Elizabeth Colby.

Olaf graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1954 and immediately joined the Marines’ Crash, Fire and Rescue Crew. After leaving the Marines, Olaf moved back to North Edgecomb to work with his father, Fred Colby in a saw mill and as a lobsterman. He raised chickens and sold eggs as far away as Massachusetts. Later in life, he worked in shipyards and filling stations until he retired in 1995.

Olaf met Judith playing cards through friends and they were married in October, 1964. He was a very private and quiet man, and an avid New York Yankees fan.

He was predeceased by his parent and his foster parents, by his siblings, Bernice, Roy, Ray, Luella, Charles, Arne, Robert and Bernard.

Olaf is survived by his wife of fifty years, Judith G. Johnson. He is also survived by his son, Ernest and his wife, Kim of Eastport, Maine, his son, William and his girlfriend, Melissa MacKusick of Boothbay, Maine, his grandson, Jason Johnson of Eastport, Maine, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Damariscotta.

Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, light a candle for Olaf, or to share a story or pictures, visit his Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
