Obituary for Gerald Albert Adams

Gerald Albert Adams
Thomaston — Gerald Albert Adams, 90, passed away at his home with his family by his side Aug. 11, 2015. He was the son of Frank B. and Mollie Jewett Adams and was born in Solon April 28, 1925.
He moved with his family to Warren in 1932 and later moved to Thomaston, where he married Beverly Maxcy Adams. Gerry entered the Navy in 1943 and served until 1946 on the Jesse H. Metcalf, crossing the Atlantic Ocean five times. Gerry sailed extensively in the Mediterranean, visiting Egypt, Sicily, Malta, Italy, France and England. He was proud to serve his country. He was a 71-year American Legion member, and he volunteered continuously at the Thomaston post. He worked as a guard at Maine State Prison for many years.
Gerry was known in Thomaston for years as the Birdhouse Builder, because he enjoyed building birdhouses in winter and selling them in the spring and summer. He specialized in church birdhouses with delicate craftsmanship that he sold all over the world. He greatly enjoyed this hobby. Gerry enjoyed camping with his wife, family and friends all over Maine and Florida. A great gardener, he was proud of his vegetables.
Gerry was predeceased by his wife, Beverly, his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Tim Monroe and his companion dog, Scrappy. He was also predeceased by his six brothers, Kendall, Forest, Willis, Cod, Chesley and Arthur; and sister Lucy Adams Mayo.
He is survived by his three children, Skip Adams and his wife, Sally, and their two children, Chuck and Stacie, all of Fort Myers, Fla; daughter Cheryl of Thomaston and her children, Jen Williams of Durham and Jarred Orff of Virginia Beach, Va.; son Bill and his companion, Roxie, of Warren, and his children, Ellie of South Portland and Ben of Warren. Also granddaughters Channa and her husband, Todd Putansu, of Owls Head and Crystal and her husband, Ben Walker, of Hope; great-grandchildren Chelsea, Addy and Camden; and his sister, Helen, of Kennebunk.
Private services will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Thomaston Ambulance, 6 Knox St., Thomaston, ME 04861 or the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841.
