Obituary for George Warren Cochrane III

George Warren  Cochrane III
George W. Cochrane III, 88, died peacefully on January 9, 2016, with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 24, 1927, to the late George W. Cochrane Jr. of Melrose, Massachusetts, and Doris (Garnett) Cochrane of Eastport, ME. He was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, spending his formative years in Reading, Massachusetts. George enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 serving in both WWII and Korea as a Flight Engineer on PBY-5A Catalina flying boats. George returned to Reading in 1952 to rebuild and run a successful ventilation business, raise a family and become active in Town government serving in several elected and appointed positions and eventually retiring and moving permanently to Southport, Maine in 1985.

While in the Boothbay Harbor area, George served on the St. Andrews Hospital Board of Trustees and served as the Board President from 1991 to 1993. He also served on the YMCA Board of Directors, becoming the Board President from 1988 to 1990. George was active at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club where he became an Officer of the club and served as Commodore from 1986 to 1987. George was actively involved with the Maine Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and served on its Board of Directors.

George is survived by his wife, Ann (Winslow) Cochrane of nearly 60 years, four children and their
Spouses: Warren and his wife, Leslie of York, Maine, Charles and his wife Joanne of Boxford, Massachusetts, Elaine Hebert and her husband Jeffery Suyematsu, also of Boxford, and stepson, Raymond Tang and his wife, Dora and three daughters, all of Hong Kong. George is also survived by two granddaughters and six grandsons, a granddaughter in-law and one great grandson.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Boothbay Congregational Church on Saturday, June 4, 2016 with a reception at Hodgdon Yacht Service, 100 Ebenecook Road, Southport, will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George’s name to the St. Andrews Village, 145 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor, Maine 04537.
