Obituary for Michael J. Lewis

Michael J. Lewis
Michael J. Lewis, 67, passed away on June 16, 2016 at his home in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Mike was born to Earland “Peanut” Lewis and Etta (Rowe) Lewis on July 2, 1948 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and attended local schools.

Mike worked at the Tug Boat, Fishermans Wharf and Andrews Harborside, as well as working as a custodian at the Boothbay Region High School. He also worked for his father, Peanut at the Gulf station downtown.

Mike was a well-known “man about town”, fun-loving and jovial, who was best known for his very distinct and hearty laugh. He frequented the Tug Boat, Kalers, Andrews Harborside, Janson’s and other local establishments, as well as the Boothbay Community Center. Mike was quite the local character who loved to people watch from several vantage points around town, and was known as the honorary “Town historian.” He was loved by and will be greatly missed by many, including his cat, Annie.

Mike is survived by his aunt, Ada Cook of Saco, Maine, and his cousins, Alan “Scrimpy” Lewis of East Boothbay, Richard Lewis of Cape Elizabeth, Suzanne Keene of East Boothbay and their families, Sue Rowe of Boothbay Harbor, Nancy Rowe McEvoy of Boothbay Harbor, Marianne Rowe Grant of San Rosa Beach, FL and their families, Peg Johnson of Old Orchard Beach, and Terry Cook of Old Orchard Beach and their families. Mike was predeceased by his parents.

A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor, 81 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Pastor Ami Sawtelle will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in memory of Mike to either the Boothbay Community Center, P. O. Box 335, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538 or the “Footbridge Enhancement Fund “ in care of the Boothbay Harbor Town Office, 11 Howard Street, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, light a candle for Mike, or to share a story or pictures, visit his Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
