On reading the Register of June 23, I first read Robert Mitchell's column, and knew immediately, without further searching, that he was writing about Michael Lewis. We've been twice-yearly visitors to Boothbay Harbor for over 35 years, and I don't think we've ever missed seeing and greeting Michael. He was, indeed a remarkable person, never failing to remember our names and sharing stories of happenings since our last visit. On more than one occasion, we drove Michael home after a long night at the Tugboat lounge. Our sincere condolences to all Michael's extended family. He will be fondly remembered by us as well. Paul Aldrich and Diane Bates.
Life was not always easy for Mike but he always brought a smile to my face with his humor and added a bright ray of sunshine even on the rainiest day working in the Bowling Alley parking lot. I will never forget last Christmas when I drove him home- he bear hugged me and said "I love you Katie" then walked to his door waving and smiling. I am a better person from having Mike in my life as he taught me to not take life so serious and that a good joke could change your day or someone else's. He loved my grandfather "Charlie" even though he was tough on him, and Gramp loved him as his own son. They watched out for each other and are now upstairs watching out for us and laughing at our bad attempts at humor. We love you Mike for teaching us how to laugh at ourselves and how to love unconditionally!! Your Lobster sweatshirt will forever live on in my heart!!
I will never forget growing with Micheal. When my dad bought the old Higley House and worked on it, we would always see Michael and he was so kind and fun loving. He will be sadly missed.
Michael will be sorely missed. He was a fixture in town as I took my twice daily walks for years. We often sat together on various benches around town and he would update me on the "latest" and fill me in on some town history. And, of course, there was that infectious laugh! RIP, Mike, you are with the angels now, and you were a sort of happy angel in Boothbay Harbor for many years.
I grew up on School Street across the street from Mike and his parents. Very fond memories of him. He always spoke to you by name no matter how long it had been since you saw each other. He will truly be missed by all. RIP.
