Daniel P. Moscato, 78, of Washington, Maine, formerly of Hardwick, MA, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 7, 2020 at MaineGeneral in Augusta with his loving wife by his side. He was born in New York, NY on January 11, 1942 to the late Demetrio (Dan) Moscato and Christine (Salamone) Moscato.

He leaves his wife Cheryl (Smith) Moscato of 33 years, brothers Robert and Thomas of Long Island, NY; mother-in-law Carol Smith, brother-in-law Robert Smith, Jr. and wife Sally, sister-in-law Karen Valley all of Hardwick, MA, special nephew and niece Justin and Sidney, 9 nieces and nephews, 10 great nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law Yvette Smith of Webster, MA.

Dan moved to Massachusetts in the late 1960s to follow his dream of working on the railroad. Incorporated Mass Central Railroad in the late 1970s and brought it back to life and it is still running daily though operated by someone else. In the early 1990s he helped bring back the Rockland-Brunswick-Augusta line moving here in 1996 to work full time on the Maine Coast. He never worked a day in his life because he did what he loved.

Dan and Cheryl shared a rare love between them and were together for 38 years.

Dan loved his dogs, cats and his cow.

A private family burial will be held in Hardwick, MA at a later date.

Dan was a really caring individual. He was a great fellow co-worker for many years at the MassCentral. I will always remember the great times we had working together. He now has his train in heaven and will be happy for sure. You will certainly be missed---but remembered in our hearts. Love you Danny. Kathy (Mayo) Parmenter.

Dan and I had shared many good times together around the trains. He never failed to make it an adventure. Lol. He was a man who truly loved his job and the railroad. I am so glad I was able to see him on more time before he passed. Dan my friend I’m going to miss you. May all your signals be green.
